Build Your Presence (Online): 3 Tips for Building Your Social Network

Stuck in a rut with your social media efforts? If you’re checking every day to see if you reached the next milestone, 500, 1000, 10,000 followers, or you’re not happy with your reach, maybe it’s time for a boost! With the amount of connectivity at your fingertips, people are often overloaded with the amount of information and the number of resources available for finding that information.

As a business professional, your goal is to be the final decision for that consumer on the lookout for a service provider. My suggestion is to take a step back, reassess your marketing strategy, analyze your email marketing effectiveness, and consider your overall business goals.

From there, here are my top 3 tips for building your social network with a purpose:

  1. Be intentional.

Do you become best friends with every person you meet at Starbucks or the guy in the grocery store line behind you? No. You get to know someone – who they really are, what they like and don’t like, and determine if they are a good fit for you. You should be just as discerning in your social media endeavors. Connect with people on LinkedIn or follow people on twitter based on your business goals and with the image of your online presence in mind. Align your brand with people and companies that reflect your standards of quality and services.

  1. Make it easier for yourself!

Are you considering launching your LinkedIn profile or revving up your Google+ stats, but you’re not sure if you have time to keep up with everything? I applaud your thinking, but you can do it all! With tools like Hootsuite, you can post to multiple social media platforms from one central location. You can even schedule posts for the future, making it possible to plan out several days or weeks at a time. I use it for myself and my clients everyday!

  1. Brag about yourself.

Well, kind of. You put a lot of effort into writing a blog or designing an infographic. Share it! Then… share it again! Along with being intentional, one of the best things you can do to develop your brand and set yourself up as an expert is to create original content and shout it from the rooftops.
